The Arjeplog Ice Run is a small and friendly running event on a frozen lake in Arctic Sweden. Run surrounded by mountains, silence and Arctic light. Whether you come to race or simply enjoy the experience, everyone runs at their own pace.

Registration

 

Entry fee 5 km: 150 SEK

Entry fee 10 km: 200 SEK

Entry fee kids run (1 km): 50 SEK*

Pre-registration is open until 9 April. On-site registration is possible for an additional 50 SEK. Participation is at own risk.

* Parents can accompany their children for free during the kids run.

09:30 – Bib number pickup and on-site registration at the service building next to the parking area

10:20 – Warm-up for the kids run

10:30 – Start kids run

10:50 – Warm-up for the 5 km and 10 km races

11:00 – Start 10 km

11:05 – Start 5 km

After the race – Medal ceremony and social gathering

The course

 

The Arjeplog Ice Run takes place on Lake Kakel / Gáhkal in Arjeplog, on a snow-covered course at approximately 420 metres above sea level. The course is a clearly marked 5 km loop run anti-clockwise; participants in the 10 km race complete the loop twice. Kilometre markers are placed along the route.

Depending on weather conditions, sections of the course may be icy and/or have standing water.

The start and finish area is located at the transition between land and lake.

Travel, parking & accessibility

Arjeplog can be reached via Arvidsjaur Airport (1h15), or via Luleå and Skellefteå (approximately 3 hours away). Public transport connections are available via train and regional buses. For detailed travel information, please see our Travel to Arjeplog page.

From Arjeplog, follow Road 95 and take the exit towards Svannäs. After Granlunda, turn left just before the bridge and follow the signs to the event location.

1What shoes do I need to participate?
You can run with normal running shoes or trailrun shoes. You don't need special shoes with studs or spikes. The track will be prepared with a small layer of packed snow to ensure you have some grip. If the temperature is around 0 degrees, the track might be slippery and you need shoes with studs or spikes.
2Facilities
There will be toilets and changing facilities available. Showers are not available. There will also be fika. There will likely be a food truck on site during the day selling food.
3When should I arrive?
Registration for the kids run ends 10:15 and registration for the 5 and 10km end at 10:30, so be there before that.
4What is a kids run?
The kids run is a shorter loop adapted for kids up to 12 years old – perfect for having fun together and experiencing the excitement of racing! Parents may run with their children.
5Who is behind this run?
The Arjeplog Ice Run is found in 2025 by Emma, Hilde and Koen to offer a unique running experience in the Arctic surroundings of Arjeplog. We combine the knowledge of the Colmis test track team with our experience in organizing sports events, while keeping a focus on creating a relaxed and social atmosphere.
